Lisa Pietersma / Consultant

Lisa Pietersma is a graduate of Queen’s University, Kingston, where she completed a master’s in Cultural Studies. She also holds degrees in English Literature and Fine Arts from Concordia University.

For over fifteen years, Lisa has worked as a paralegal, researcher, and database administrator, primarily for litigation firms working in the area of Aboriginal law, with a focus on document management. In this capacity, she has not only played an important role in proceedings before courts in Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta, but has also developed an almost uncanny ability to decipher handwritten historical documents.

Lisa collaborates regularly with teams of lawyers, technicians, and researchers on projects at all stages of litigation and in every phase of the database and document management life cycle: from archival research and retrieval to database design, search optimization to tombstone coding, quality control to in-depth analysis.

Lisa is proud to work as a consultant and ally to both law firms specializing in Aboriginal law and First Nations communities and is particularly excited about her recent involvement with the education initiatives of various First Nations located in present-day Saskatchewan and Alberta.
