Marie-Claude André-Grégoire / Lawyer

Marie-Claude André-Grégoire is a partner at O’Reilly, André-Grégoire & Associés S.E.N.C. She first joined the firm as a student in 2013, then as a lawyer in 2014, with one goal in mind: to help Aboriginal communities like her own assert their rights and interests and protect their lands.
As a member of the Innu community of Uashat mak Mani-utenam, Marie-Claude quickly established herself as a passionate practitioner of Aboriginal law. She works closely with First Nations in matters of governance and self-determination in diverse areas such as land, education, and child welfare. She also supports communities in the implementation of concrete measures to protect their land, water, wind, and natural environments, including, most recently, the efforts of the Innu of Uashat mak Mani-utenam to regain management of the Mishta-Shipu (Moisie) River.
Marie-Claude has substantial litigation experience, having participated in proceedings before the Court of Quebec, the Superior Court of Quebec, the Quebec Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Elevating awareness and sensitivity to Aboriginal issues, perspectives, and realities among the non-Aboriginal population is of particular importance to Marie-Claude. To this end, she has written a series of columns for Radio-Canada - Espaces autochtones to explain the myths and realities of the Indian Act. She is an excellent speaker and inspirational presenter who has participated in various symposiums, conferences, and training sessions related to the advancement of the field.
