Michelle Corbu / Lawyer

Michelle Corbu joined O’Reilly, André-Grégoire & Associés in January 2022 as a lawyer practicing Aboriginal law in the areas of Aboriginal and treaty rights and Aboriginal governance. Her particular interest in education and child and family services has led her to work with Aboriginal peoples striving to assert self-determination in these areas. She also has experience in drafting proceedings, including factums filed with the Supreme Court of Canada.
Prior to joining the firm, Michelle completed her articling at a state-owned corporation where she gained knowledge in diverse legal areas. She also worked as a legal researcher for a boutique law firm in Montreal representing exclusively Aboriginal communities and organizations in the defence of their Aboriginal hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering rights, as well as in the assertion of their language rights and the protection of their culture and traditional knowledge. Passionate about international law and diplomatic relations, she has worked with governmental and non-governmental organizations in Canada and Asia.
Michelle completed a master’s degree in international law at the University of Montreal where she wrote a thesis on the implications of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada for the rule of law and transitional justice.
